ANAHEIM - An abandoned building in the Anaheim Historic Colony District was destroyed by fire overnight.

Both stories of the dilapidated building, Sabol said. It took 32 firefighters
five hours to put out the flames and mop up the charred remnants.
About 1,100 historic properties sit in the colony district - a 2.127 square mile
area bounded by North, South, West and East streets - the original
boundaries of the Colony settled by German winemakers in 1857.
Homes which are awarded protected status must meet numerous standards,
including maintaining the historic integrity of the structure according to the
Federal Department of Interior Standards for Historic Preservation.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
