| On July 17th at 4:00 p.m., Frank Mickadeit (our local Orange County Register Reporter) has offered to cook his famous Santa Maria style barbeque for us. This will include tri-tip beef slowly cooked over specially purchased red oak wood, secret recipe piquinto beans, French bread slathered with butter and garlic, salad, and a dessert (to be decided). Due to liability issues, this will be a byob barbeque, however, we will provide water as a beverage. To cover the costs of the dinner, we are charging $10 per person for this unique opportunity to enjoy a Santa Maria style barbeque cooked by our local celebrity chef, Frank Mickadeit. We (the AHS Board) think you will enjoy the event. How does this tie into history, you may be asking? Well, this will be a brief history lesson. When Juan Ontiveros sold some of his land to George Hansen for the Anaheim settlers, he moved to Santa Maria and started another ranch and a vineyard. In addition, Clementina Turk and her husband moved up to the Santa Ynez area. By the way, some wonderful artifacts belonging to Clementine Langenberger and her family were discovered in the basement of the Santa Ynez museum and they will be gifted to Anaheim sometime in September! At the barbeque one of our resident historians will fill you in on all the details. Ron and Gail Eastman have graciously offered their backyard for this special event. Their address is 120 W. Water Street. If you are interested, please let us know. Also, to hold your spot, in case we decide to limit how many people can come, please send $10 per person to our P.O. Box 927, Anaheim, CA 92815. Any questions? Please email me. Happy Day! Helen Myers President, Anaheim Historical Society P.S. There is a rumor that the new Anaheim Brewery might drop off some of its sample brews! |
